What is an adoption?

By adopting an orangutan, or giving an adoption as a gift, you contribute to the work of rescuing and rehabilitating the distressed and orphaned orangutans in Borneo. Together with our local partner BOS Foundation, Save the Orangutan works to provide the orangutans with the best possible care and training. The goal of the work is that they will one day be able to return to the wild. You also contribute to the protection and preservation of their home in the rainforest and to the survival of wild populations.

As an adopter, you support the orangutans with a fixed amount monthly or annually. You will receive an adoption certificate and news about our work. You will also be able to follow the development of your particular orangutan through stories, videos and updates.

What does your contribution go to?

All the orangutans at the center
Your adoption is symbolic. It means that you are not just helping one orangutan, but all the other orangutans at the rehabilitation center in Borneo and the wild populations.

Rescuing orphaned and distressed orangutans
You are contributing to the work of rescuing, rehabilitating and later releasing orphaned and distressed orangutans. You are also contributing to protecting the rainforest to ensure that the orangutans have a safe habitat.

Preventive measures through information
You are contributing to information sharing about the critically endangered orangutans and their disappearing home, as well as the work to minimize threats to the orangutan.

What do you get when adopting an orangutan?

When you adopt an orangutan, you will receive an adoption certificate and the orangutan's background story directly by email.

In addition, we will send you regular updates about the orangutan's life and development so that you or the gift recipient can follow the orangutan's life at Nyaru Menteng.

We send out updates four times a year. In August, you will receive a video greeting.

You will also receive our newsletter, where you can read about our work in Borneo and the results from this. We will also provide you with the latest news about the orangutans and their habitat.
