The rainforests are disappearing at an alarming rate. It threatens the orangutan. It threatens the climate globally. And that threatens biodiversity and the local population. You can help reverse that trend by planting trees for yourself or as a gift.
We are restoring Borneo's rainforest
Once the orangutan had lots of trees. But the rainforests are disappearing at an alarming rate. It threatens the orangutan. It threatens the climate globally. And that threatens biodiversity and the local population. Together we can reverse this trend.
Deforestation is the biggest threat to the orangutan's survival. In the past four decades alone, around 80% of the orangutan's habitat has disappeared. We are working to re-establish the peat swam forests in Borneo, which are the orangutan's favorite habitat. We have already replanted 200 hectares with new trees, and the target is 1,000 hectares.

The restoration of the rainforest is crucial for the orangutan's survival
That is why we collaborate with a number of partners on the replanting of trees on Borneo. One, two and many more will become a new rainforest. Mawas is located in Kalimantan, the Indonesian part of Borneo. It is an area the size of London with carbon-rich, tropical peat swam forest. The area is home to more than 2,500 wild orangutans – it is one of the world's largest populations. But more than 30% of the forest in Mawas has been destroyed. Therefore, we are replanting lush rainforest in the area in collaboration with our local partners and the local communities.
We have replanted 200 hectares of lush rainforest in the Mawas area. The goal is to replant 1,000 hectares. In the humid and warm climate of Borneo, the trees grow large into a lush rainforest. If you participate in the replanting of the rainforest in Borneo with us, you will, in short, contribute to:
- Protect more than 2,500 wild orangutans by securing their habitats for the long term.
- Reduce the emission of CO2 for the benefit of the global climate - among other things by blocking man-made channels so that the water level increases in the peat swam forest and thus reduce the risk of forest fires.
- Improve the living conditions of the local communities through their work in collecting seeds, producing seedlings in village nurseries and later planting them in the replanting area.
